IslamoFascismAwarenessWeek

RESIST "Islamo-Fascism Awareness Week!"

The first thing that must be said is that "Islamo-fascism" is a Bush term which all thinking people should reject. It's a label concocted to whip up the xenophobia, blind patriotism, and intellectual conformity necessary for the ongoing U.S. crusade in the Middle East. Especially given the Bush regime's escalating threats toward Iran, the danger of a complicit campus environment cannot be underestimated.

In short, the main goal of the "David Horowitz Freedom Center" here is to write up a petition deliberately designed to be unlikely for Muslim groups to sign and then to use Muslim groups' failure to sign the petition as evidence that they're on the side of "our terrorist adversaries."

Horowitz, who, along with Frank Gaffney, James Woolsey, and Rick Santorum has played a truly vanguard role in the "Islamo-Fascism" movement, apparently has few doubts about his impact. "During the week of October 22-26, 2007, the nation will be rocked by the biggest conservative campus protest ever --- Islamo-Fascism Awareness Week, a wake-up call for Americans on 200 university and college campuses." The event will confront the two "Big Lies of the political left:" that "George Bush created the war on terror and that Global Warming is a greater danger to Americans than the terrorist threat." In fact, according to Horowitz, Islamo-fascism constitutes "the greatest danger Americans have ever confronted."

I suspect that is quite unlikely, because this "awareness" week is not about awareness at all, but using anti-Muslim animus to achieve political ends. The primary political end is to continue the war in Iraq. For example Santorum, one of the featured speakers of the week has previously urged Bush, for "public relations" reasons, to depict the war in Iraq as a greater war against "Islamic Fascism."
